Reminder: CAP Invitational Salon Now Open for Entries

Every two years the Connecticut Association of Photographers sponsors a competition among Connecticut camera clubs. This year's edition, the 31th, is now open to receive entries. All Connecticut camera clubs are invited to participate.

Each Connecticut camera club may enter 12 digital images in an open category. The deadline for receipt of images is November 28, 2017. The images will be judged by the Cape Cod Viewfinders and the results will be announced by December 15, 2017. The entry fee is $10 per club for the 12 images. Note that this is a club competition and individuals wishing to participate must do so through their camera club. Also, individuals may not enter through more than one club.

Last Chance to Reserve: Landscape Seminar on Nov. 11, 2017

Time is running out to reserve your space for the Ken Sklute half day seminar entitled Visual Depth. Ken will share his thoughts, tips, and tricks about creating very strong landscape images in an informative and inspirational program. The program will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2017,  at The Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr, Hamden, CT, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The deadline for receipt of reservations is October 28, 2017.

Ken has enjoyed a diverse career photographing people, professional sports, architecture, weddings, and landscapes. Ken spends much of his time photographing, teaching, and lecturing both nationally and internationally. He has been located in Phoenix, Arizona, since 1996 to be out in the landscape of the beautiful southwest.

Reminder: CAP trip to New Hampshire

Join CAP in New Hampshire and enjoy the beauty of the White Mountain National Forest and more.  On this trip you will have the chance to photograph waterfalls, covered bridges and scenic landscapes. We will follow the Kancamagus Highway and visit other nearby areas.  Maybe we’ll even see a moose!  Some subjects will be close to the road and others will require some walking. This is a great time of the year to be in New England so don't miss out.
     
WHEN:  Friday to Sunday  September 22, 23 and 24, 2017

WHERE:  We will be staying in Lincoln, NH.  A block of 8 rooms has been reserved  at a local, family operated motel but the rooms can only be held until August 22! Only 2 more days to reserve your room.

CAP September Trip to White Mountains of New Hampshire

Ken Sklute Presentation "Visual Depth" Coming Nov. 11, 2017

On Saturday, November 11, 2017, Ken Sklute, A Canon Explorer of Light, will present a half day seminar entitled Visual Depth. Ken will share his thoughts, tips, and tricks about creating very strong landscape images in an informative and inspirational program. The program will take place at The Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr, Hamden, CT, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The accolade of "Explorer of Light" is held by only a few top photographers worldwide. Ken Sklute earned this honor by way of his diverse career photographing people, sports, architecture, weddings and landscapes.  He has also been named "Photographer of the Year" 32 times, encompassing the states of New York, California and Arizona.  CAP is therefore extremely proud of being able to showcase Ken's wonderful photography and outlook and it promises to be a "not to miss"  experience.

CAP Waterfalls Field Trip

Day Trip Saturday June 10th. to Kent Falls State Park and Bash Bish Falls on NY State and Massachusetts line.

Approximate time 10:00 arrival at Kent Falls followed by a BYO picnic lunch at the park. Parking Fee $9.00. If someone in your car has Charter Oak Senior Pass there is no fee. Out of State License Plates will be charged $15 parking unless someone has a senior pass. 

Kent Falls is one of the best known and favorite falls in Connecticut. The walk to the top can be accomplished by steps with a climbing rail or a two mile path rated as an easy climb to the top of the falls. Approximate time to photograph falls and Scenery-about 2 hours followed by the picnic lunch. 

The second falls is approximately one hour drive to Bash Bish Falls with some nice scenery on the drive to the falls. The main parking lot in MA leads to a 1 mile walk (rated 4 out of 10 for difficulty. However it is rocky/hilly and might be difficult for anyone who is a senior/and or has health issues. There is a NY parking lot with a trail to the falls that is much easier but is a mile and a half round trip. 
Carpooling is recommended to cut costs. Starting location to meet and detailed information will be available to those who sign up for this trip.  Locations of meeting will somewhat be determined by those who are coming.  Please e mail Linda Thomas at humbrd001@yahoo.com or call her at 203-606-8327. CAP is pleased to announce an upcoming event with Canon Explorer of Light, KEN SKLUTE.  Save the date of November 11, 2017, and meet us at The Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr, Hamden, CT (Note that this is a change from the previously announced date of November 4, 2017. We were forced to make this change because of a conflict.)

CAP Celebrates Tops in CT 2016

On Saturday evening, April 29, 2017, 75 CAP members and guests gathered at the Whitney Center in Hamden for a celebration of the 2016 Tops in Connecticut Competition. The evening began with a presentation of the 101 accepted and award winning images with commentary written and read by members of the CAP Executive Committee. We had the privilege of seeing some of the outstanding work being done by Connecticut photographers.

Following the presentation plaques and ribbons were presented for the accepted and award winning images. Click to see the award winning images. A special treat for the award winning photographers were plaques that included a reproduction of their winning images. Special thanks to co-director Antoinette Gombeda, APSA, HonNEC, for arranging these special awards.

This is just a gentle reminder that the Tops in Connecticut show and CAP dinner are scheduled for April 29, 2017. Deadline for receipt of reservations is April 20, 2017, just one week away. The show will contain 101 images selected at the judging last December along with commentary written by some of Connecticut's most experienced photographers. Come and see the excellent and varied work by many talented Connecticut Photographers.

NECCC Conference Courtesy Enrollment for a CAP Member

We sent out this notice 1 1/2 weeks ago, but have received no responses. Here is a second reminder. If you are interested please submit your name to Antoinette by Monday, Feb. 27. If you have never attended the conference before it an opportunity too good to miss.

Here a chance for a CAP member to attend the NECCC Conference July 14, 15, and 16, 2017, free of charge if you have never attended before. It is a great weekend filled with exceptional presenters, timely topics, and many photo opportunities.

The New England Camera Club Council, Inc. invites each NECCC member camera club to select one of its members to receive free registration to the next annual NECCC conference, held at U-Mass, Amherst, Mass. on July 14-16, 2017. The complimentary registration gives the person submitted by the club (Connecticut Association of Photographers) all the learning experiences, photo opportunities and inspirational programs that go along with the conference. Please note, that the enrollment covers only the registration fee. The three day registration is $205.  The recipient will be responsible for his or her own room, meals and transportation.

Rules governing the courtesy enrollment:
1. Candidates must be at least eighteen years of age as of July 1, 2017.
2. A candidate must be a member of an NECCC member club (Connecticut Association of Photographers) in good standing (i.e. dues paid for the current year).
3. Candidates must have never attended a previous NECCC conference.
4. Selection of the candidate will be the responsibility of the individual clubs.

CAP would like to give the opportunity to one of its members who has never attended the NECCC conference a chance to be part of this exceptional weekend. The dates are July 14, 15 and 16, 2016.  If you are interested in attending this conference (and follow the rules governing the courtesy enrollment) please submit your name to Antoinette Gombeda at agombeda@optonline.net by February 27, 2017. Please put "Courtesy Enrollment" in the subject line.
